The story is of a young, cheerful and confident girl, Arundhati. She lives in Sounpoor with her Father, Nageshrao Jahangirdar and Brother, Shantanu Jahangirdar. The Jahagirdars stay in an old ancestral house. Time has washed away all the wealth but the attitude still lingers. She runs a school for blind children and is the apple of her father’s eye. One day the family is visited by Padmini Saranjame, an industrialist from Mumbai. Padmini is eyeing the mountain that is owned by Jahagirdars, as she has information that the mountain has gold mines beneath it. Nageshrao is dead against selling the mountain but Shantanu is very eager to make a quick buck. Padmini senses an opportunity in Shantanu’s eagerness to make it big and sets a trap. She proposes her son, Digvijay for Shantanu’s sister, Arundhati. When she’s sure that Shantanu has no way out, Padmini slips the information that Digvijay is blind. Shantanu has no option but to agree.

When Shantanu tells Arundhati about the marriage proposal she happily agrees. But Shantanu only tells her a part of the truth. He says that Digvijay has a problem with his eyesight. Little does Arundhati know that the boy that she has agreed to marry has no eyesight at all!
