“Janhavi” is daughter of Dr. Vijay Deshpande (Eminent Social Worker) and Anagha. She is staying in Sangli with her Parents, Grand-parents and younger sister, Karuna. Her brother Nandan stays in USA. The Deshpande family is typical middle class, cultured family. Janhavi, our protaganist is a very regular, shy and lovable middle class girl, She is an introvert and doesn’t like to hurt anybody. She has always been a brilliant student, holding a merit in all her exams. Like any other young girl she has many dreams about her career and her life partner. But she doesn’t want to hurt anyone She is trying to fulfill her dreams without disturbing her family. She Her Grandpa’s all Senior Citizen Friends are her friends too.

Her younger sister Karuna is extrovert, rather straight forward, but she loves Janhavi. Another important member of the Despande family is Veena Atya, who is a divorcee. Since last twenty years she has been staying in Pune. She is well known socialite, active in Journalism and event management. Janhvi and Veena Atya share a very close friendship. Veena sees in Janhavi her aspirations and dreams she had when she was young. To ensure that Janhavi and Karuna receive the best options for education, she brings Janhavi and Karuna to Pune. Karuna wants to do medicine.

In her social circle Veena comes across a well know Industrialist couple – Shriniwas and Madhumanjiri Mazumdar, a simple and ideal couple. She becomes friendly with Madhumanjiri. She realizes that their riches have not affected their simple lifestyle. Though otherwise living in luxury with palatial house and with costly cars, they give the impression of being very honest, down to earth and lovable folks. When Veena visits their house she meets Aniket, the only son of Mazumdars, who is Architect and partner in the construction company and doing well in his work. The only daughter Pallavi is studying in College. The setting is perfect for Veena to think of Aniket as an ideal life partner for Janhavi, but she keeps quite, as she thinks that the Mazumdars would not be interested in a middle class match for their son.

Phiroz Rangoonwala is Janhavi’s friend from college who keeps coming to Pune as he has business interest in Pune. He is very fond of Janhavi and is secretly in love with her, however fully aware of the cultural differences, he keeps his feelings to himself.

As luck would have its turn, one day Madhumanjiri asks Janhvi’s hand for her son Aniket. She appreciates Janhavi’s brilliant career and her excellence in her job. The Deshpande family is overjoyed . Janhavi also falls in love with Aniket. Her dreams for the best life parter comes true. Madhumanjiri does not demand anything from Deshpande family. The marriage takes place in Mazumdar’s palatial house. All the diginitaries from various industries attend the function. Janhavi is in heaven, she has never thought that her life would take such a pleasant turn.

During the first night of honeymoon her dreams are shattered, as she realizes that Aniket is impotent. He also feels guilty, he assures her that as soon as they go back to Pune, he will consult an Expert Doctor and take treatment. Janhavi, as she is shy and introvert, does not disclose this fact to anyone.

Janhavi and Aniket return to Pune, Janhavi becomes restless, after some days she tells Aniket that she has taken appointment of one specialist for his treatment, on hearing this the whole scenario of the Mazumdar household changes, all the family members, except Aniket’s sister Pallavi, blame Janhavi for this situation. They say that Janhavi has some problem or a past affair, that is why she is not comfortable with Aniket. Janhavi is shocked to see new side of Madhumanjiri, slowly she discovers that under the simplicity and kindness, the wealth is built on lots of immoral compromises. Now Madhumanjiri, Shreeniwas and Aniket are at one side and Janhavi alone is on the other side. She tries to convince them to stop their wrong ways of making money, but in vain. She gets fed up of the situation and runs away to her maternal family, but she truly loves Aniket.
