The story is set in the village of Bhira. Conservative and traditional, it has a small but prominent temple of the goddess of the village -Bhirai devi.

Though the Devadasi tradition is seemingly history, the shadows of the past still haunt this village where the people hold a very narrow outlook towards life and whose thoughts are manipulated and influenced by the religious leaders like Bappaji.

Jayashree bai, who is now ageing was a beautiful woman once who was officially announced as the devadasi by the village priest. She complied with the unreasonable demands of the big people in the village but never wished the same for her daughter Kashi who was now growing up into a beautiful young girl.

Will Kashi give in and accept the same fate as her mother?
Will she fight these harsh traditions with her belief in the goddess?
Is woman still a mere puppet in the hands of men?
Is she born to serve men and obey their orders?
